  • Evidence Based Social Interventions

Our Vision

To be an international center of excellence for social work and social policy education and research.

Our Mission

In our teaching and research we strive to

  • Educate future social workers who will lead the profession regionally, nationally and internationally;
  • Facilitate critical inquiry into and analysis of the causes and consequences of social problems and injustice;
  • Produce innovative, theoretically-based and empirically-sound means of alleviating and rectifying such problems and injustices through policy and practice;
  • Honor and respect the inherent dignity, rights, and strengths of all individuals, families, and communities.

Goals

  • We will provide education and training along a lifelong learning continuum to enable individuals to realize their full potential, using a flexible/blended mode of delivery.
  • We will continue to build collaborative research links locally, nationally and internationally by attracting the best researchers to shape and develop our research and teaching agenda.
  • We will work with partners including governmental organizations, professional bodies, and the independent and voluntary sectors (NGOs), to pursue education and research activities that accord with the social work and social policy agenda.
  • We will continue to work in close partnership with staff and students to embed a positive attitude to continuing professional development by providing advice and guidance throughout all stages in their learning and development.
  • We will pay particular attention to maintaining the high quality standards required by the Commission on Higher Education and Development (CHED)
The College's teaching program includes the following:
  1. Bachelor of Science in Social Work
  2. Bachelor of Science in Social Work - Second Courser: for those who have already obtained a Bachelor Degree (Week day Evening Classes)
  3. Master of Science in Social Work (MSSW) - in partnership with the Philippine Women's University (PWU).

In the near future we also hope to establish our own MSSW and the Philippinesfirst PhD program in Social Work.

Aims of our Social Work Programs

Our programs aim to produce qualified social workers in whom employers, colleagues and those who use social work services would find someone:

  • Broadly educated in social work theory and research and in relevant social science disciplines, as well as someone trained in practice methods.
  • Able critically to appraise a range of sources of evidence, including research evidence.
  • Whose knowledge and transferable skills equip them for working in a variety of settings and with a variety of service users, but also someone eager to continue their professional development once these have been consolidated with a period of practice.
  • Who has acquired the range of competencies needed to cover the roles expected of social workers, including those of case manager, caseworker, advocate, team member, group worker and community worker or community development worker
  • Who, in the complex and fluid organizational framework of health, education and social care, is able to work confidently within a multi-disciplinary team and/or across agency boundaries.
  • Capable of carrying out modest-scale practical research projects. This is a valuable aid to any social worker's date-collection and assessment skills and enables them, as team members, to help to address the information-needs of their agencies.
  • Who is evidence-based in their decision-making and who can be expected systematically to appraise and monitor their own work.
  • Capable of purposeful introspection. We try to help students to become aware of the influence of their own experiences, needs, fears, prejudice, personalities, temperament, interests and 'blind spots' on their work. In this regard we expect not just self-knowledge of insight but also evidence of an attempt to correct any adverse influences.
  • Who can work within agency conventions and limitations, but can also see beyond these to patterns of need and opportunities for preventative work which may not find their way through the resource allocation system. We try to ensure that students are able to think critically about the efficiency and effectiveness with which problems are addressed.
  • Who has well-developed professional attitudes and values.

In all our programs, we aim to produce social workers with good analytic and research skills, who can contribute to the development of the profession's knowledge base
